Chica Tejon--National finalist for America's Favorite Trail
HorseDan, this
is a voice from the past, but I hope you remember my 2 year
old buckskin mare we brought to you straight from Fran
Dearings and maybe you remember some fishing you and Ken
did. I want you to know that Chica and I have been competing
with the American Competitive Trail Horse Association for
almost two years now.
This
is not a speed event, but a 6 mile, 6 obstacle event where
horse and rider are judged at each obstacle for quiet
willingness, athleticism and precision. The month you spent
with Chica, you gave her that great start over obstacles and
then out over the ranch that has led us to where we are
today. Ken picked up where you left off to continue your
methods and obstacles. We already have our bronze medal and
only need 3 points for our silver, in half the rides that
most horses need to accomplish this.
We will be on HRTV
this September (not RFDTV) for America's Favorite Trail
Horse, where the viewers vote just like on American Idol.
Last spring over 1,000 horse and rider teams auditioned
across the United States. 100 were chosen as national
finalists, and Chica and I are one of the 10 from Texas. The
series airs on HRTV Tues., Sept. 13 for 13 weeks. Chica
Tejon #340 and I are on the 3rd episode on Tues., Sept.
27th.
I thank you so much
for getting us started in this direction. I have attached a
few photos to remind you of Chica and will send more
information about the competition if you would be interested
in sharing it. We would really appreciate your endorsement,
and I think Chica's success reflects the quality start she
got from Dan Keen Horsemanship or Wenglish, as you called
it.
We hope you and Kelley and the family
are doing well. That includes Troubador.
Vote for Chica Tejon #340 on Sept.
27th HRTV--America's Favorite Trail Horse.
Thank you again,
Suzy and Ken Thyssen and Chica Tejon |

Category = Clinics
Comments = I had the opportunity to participate in a weekend
clinic that was put together for a group of friends. I
learned so much! Dan definitely pushed me outside of my
comfort zone a couple of times...and I am so grateful that
he did. I came away from the weekend feeling more confident
and excited to continue the techniques that I learned. Dan
was so good at reading me and figuring out what I
needed--even if I didn't really know. Also, I thought
that everyone who participated really got a lot of
individual attention. I am buying a pair of spurs tomorrow,
Dan! (to help rid me of my nickname "Handsy"). Thanks!! You
and Kelly are rock stars!

Training
Comments: Dan Keen shows
a consistent depth and breadth of knowledge and unique
understanding for training horses (and their riders!). Dan
has successfully helped me with at least 5 different horses.
My daughter is the real rider in the family and her time in
his clinics has greatly developed her skills and no matter
how far she has progressed, he still manages to push her
forward! Y'all should check his Wenglish out!

Hello Mr. Dan this is Bailee
Anderson. I would like you to know that your camp improved my riding
SO much!!! I came an intimidated and weak and left not accepting any
crud from Feather, my pony. I loved it and every time my friends
come over I show them the picture of me and Feather swimming in the
pond and they all say, O wow!!! And so thanks, and I can't wait for
the next camp!!!

My daughter attended Dan's clinic last summer
and it was the "best weekend" she'd ever
had. The amount she learned in 2 1/2 days was
more than she had learned in 5 years of
lessons. Dan's attitude and discipline is a
breath of fresh air, he doesn't go easy on
them. He expect the kids to work just as hard
as the horses and gets their complete respect
right off the bat. They may not like him very
much the first night cause he demands a lot of
effort, but when they see that the effort pays
off for them and their horse, they love him by
the next day!
Great time, great
scenery, great learning experience, great
achievements.
Is she going back
this year???? YOU BET!!!!! Pam Aman Houston, Texas
